BBC Sport: Robby McCrorie snubbed by Scotland as Rangers teammate Ryan Jack wins call-up

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has been called up to the Scotland squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Cyprus and Spain, with his club teammate Robby McCrorie missing out, according to BBC Sport.

Scotland host both nations at Hampden Park this month as they look to get their campaign off to a winning start. Norway and Georgia are also in their qualifying group.

Manager Steve Clarke has named his squad for the two fixtures, with Jack the only Rangers representative on the list. McCrorie meanwhile has been dropped from the setup entirely.

Brilliant news for Jack

Jack has had a start-stop career due to various injuries, with this season no different for the 31-year-old. He has been limited to just 19 league games out of a possible 28.

But Scotland manager Clarke has kept the faith in the midfielder, who played a key role as the country qualified for Euro 2020. Jack has 14 caps for his nation, and will be keen to add to that total later this month.

The same cannot be said for goalkeeper and Jack’s teammate McCrorie. He has been left out by Clarke this time around, having made the bench in Scotland’s friendly loss to Turkey in November.

His absence comes amid call-ups for trio Angus Gunn, Zander Clark and Liam Kelly. All three have yet to be capped for Scotland, as reported by BBC Sport.

The snub may not come as a surprise to 24-year-old McCrorie. He has not made a single appearance for Rangers this season, with Allan McGregor the club’s current number one and Jon McLaughlin his back-up.

Jack will certainly be delighted with the reward for his recent hard work for Rangers. But a spot in Clarke’s starting XI won’t be easy against Cyprus and Spain.

Premier League midfielders John McGinn, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour will all want to be included from the start.
