Ally McCoist reacts as Alfredo Morelos exit from Rangers agreed, 'penny-pinching' verdict shared
Ally McCoist isn’t surprised to see speculation of Alfredo Morelos edging closer to a move away from Rangers with a report in Spain suggesting he’s moving to Sevilla.
Vamos Mi Sevilla reported on 10 March that Morelos, 26, has “already committed” to a move to the La Liga club with his contract at Ibrox set to expire in the summer.
McCoist expects the Colombian to move on in the coming months and is disappointed that the Gers aren’t going to get a transfer fee for him.
Speaking on Viaplay on Sunday (12 March, 12:38pm), McCoist said: “We don’t know but the likelihood is that he looks to be as though he’s off.
“He’s scored some great goals and been a great servant to the club and I think if he does go, he’ll go with to the thanks of the Rangers supporters. And that’s the way it should be.
“I don’t think he’s reached the form he was at earlier on in his career and maybe he needs a bit of a fresh challenge.

“Time will tell and it will be a disappointing thing, me with my penny-pinching head on, that they’re losing him for nothing. They could’ve made a real few quid on him a year ago.
“But having said that, he’s been a great servant and he’s given the fans some great memories.”
Dubious
It remains to be seen whether there’s anything in this report because Viaplay made it clear that it’s an “unconfirmed” claim from Spain.
No one in the UK is reporting it and we know what overseas media outlets can be like.
Morelos has been linked with every club in Europe in his time at Rangers and no move has materialised, nor has one been close to materialising either.
He was strongly linked with Lille in 2020 with the Ligue 1 club bidding £16million for El Bufalo.
Looking at that now, it’s unbelievable that he wasn’t sold at that price.
Morelos is now set to leave on a free transfer.
We’ve got our money’s worth for a £1million transfer but a lot more money has been missed out on.
You have to point fingers at a stubborn hierarchy for that. The same could be happening with Ryan Kent, too.
Ross Wilson has to know when to sell players and to be fair to him, he got it right with Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo last summer, as well as Nathan Patterson last January.
But the Morelos failure is sticking in our heads, unfortunately.
In other Rangers news, this Ibrox ace has been tipped to join a “big club in England” after what Beale said.
