Rangers striker Kemar Roofe ruled out for the rest of the season after hip surgery – Michael Beale

Kemar Roofe won’t play again for Rangers this season after undergoing hip surgery that has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign, says Michael Beale.

The Gers striker has struggled with fitness injuries all season, limiting him to just six appearances in all competitions and no starts in any competition.

But after recently battling back from injury, the 30-year-old has now undergone a minor hip operation and won’t be available again until pre-season according to the boss during his pre-match press conference on Friday (10 March).

“Kemar Roofe has had a minor hip operation and will be back for pre-season,” he told the press, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Blow

Rangers have been welcoming players back from injuries in recent weeks with the likes of John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz and Leon King all available for the cup quarter-final clash with Raith Rovers this weekend.

However after news that attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence suffered a setback in training and would miss the rest of the season, Roofe has now suffered the same fate.

Rangers

It comes at a rough time for the former Leeds striker, with Croatian striker Antonio Colak claiming his place in the side after goals in recent appearances and with Alfredo Morelos’ future still up in the air.

But now Roofe is likely to head into another summer of unrest and rumours swirling around his future without getting the chance to prove himself at Ibrox again.

With plenty of games remaining this season there would have been an opportunity for him to score more goals and get some more minutes under his belt, but now the boss will have to rely on Colak, Morelos and youngsters like Robbie Ure to score his goals.

In other Rangers news, one pundit has hinted at a key exit from Ibrox this summer as “drama” elsewhere could play a part in his future.
