Rangers fans largely ignore Michael Beale request as win v Hibs marred by regrettable scenes
Rangers fans “largely ignored” Michael Beale’s request to respect Hibernian’s tribute to late owner Ron Gordon on Wednesday night, according to the Daily Mail’s John McGarry.
Writing on the Mail website on 8 March, McGarry reported how Hibs fans did Gordon proud as they raised the roof at Easter Road with Sunshine on Leith.
However, during the pre-match tributes, Rangers fans were heard chanting their own songs – as they did at Hampden Park during a minute’s applause after Gordon lost his battle with cancer.

Ahead of the 4-1 win over Hibs on Wednesday, Beale did ask fans to show respect to the Edinburgh club’s tributes but as per McGarry, not many fans took that on board.
Classless
Honestly, a lot of our fans are as immature as primary school weans.
A lot of supporters have already defended their actions and the actions of others by arguing how Hibs fans reacted to Queen Elizabeth II’s death last year.
But just ignore them and let them get on with that. What can we do about it? Resorting to whataboutery is pathetic.

Being disrespectful to a man who’s recently died of cancer is as low as it really gets.
It’s not tit for tat – it’s about being the better man and rising above the hatred and bile that’s plagued Scottish football for decades and decades.
It doesn’t seem like a lot of our fans want this hatred to stop. They’d rather their football fandom be consumed by horrific chanting, mocking deaths and so on.
And this isn’t about Celtic fans or Hibs fans or whoever else, by the way. This is about our fanbase, which is constantly disgracing itself.
In other Rangers news, Kevin Williamson called fans “scum” over the controversy that marred the win over Hibs.
