Michael Beale dropping Alfredo Morelos for Antonio Colak in Rangers 4-1 win v Hibernian a ‘big call’ – Scott Allan
Scott Allan believes Michael Beale’s decision to drop Alfredo Morelos for Antonio Colack in Rangers’ 4-1 win over Hibernian on Wednesday night [8 March] was a “big call”.
In their last two matches, the Croatian striker has led the line for Beale’s side instead of Morelos who holds an impressive ten-goal record against Hibs in the Scottish Premiership.
Colak netted a deadly double at Easter Road last night, showing his lethal touch in front of the goal justifying Beale’s decision to select him.
Allan speaking to Sky Sports Scotland [9 March] was asked if he feels the Gers are closer to matching their Old Firm rivals Celtic, he said: “Yeah, down the line but there’s still a way to go just now, but going to Easter Road, and Hibs coming off the back of a good run and getting four goals.
“Another big decision Colak starting instead of Morelos who’s historically done well at Easter Road was a big call and Colak has repaid the manager with two goals.”
Staked his claim
Beale’s decision to start Colak instead of Morelos against Hibs was indeed a big call from the former QPR boss, given Morelos’ impressive 10 goals against them throughout his Gers career.
It was an even bigger call considering Colak had only bagged just one goal since the turn of the year, because of injuries and lack of form.

However, the Croatian striker certainly staked his claim for a regular berth netting his 12th and 13th goals of the campaign.
With Morelos’ immediate future at Ibrox uncertain, the Gers may already have an ideal replacement on their books in a player who has proven countless times this season that he’s got what it takes to lead the line for Beale’s men.
