Pundit fumes at ‘silly’ incident in Rangers 4-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road

Tam McManus was furious with Hibernian defender CJ Egan-Riley after his “silly lunge” allowed Rangers back into the game in their 4-1 win at Easter Road.

The light blues fell behind early through a Connor Goldson own-goal, but were awarded a penalty after a lengthy VAR review for a foul by Egan-Riley on Ryan Kent just minutes later.

And McManus blasted the defender for his error before predicting an entertaining game, which it turned out to be if you were a fan of the visitors as they ran out lopsided victors.

“Silly lunge in the box definitely catches Kent for the pen,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (8 March).

“Very open game. Hibs having a right go here, should make for a very entertaining game.”

Crazy

Everyone, their cat and their grandmother knows that if Ryan Kent is going on a run he wants to end up on his right foot.

So for Egan-Riley to slide in the way he does and take Kent out, in the penalty area too, it was just a ludicrous decision by the young defender and one he’ll have to learn the hard way about.

It was absolutely mental that the referee didn’t give the decision initially and had to go to the VAR pitch side monitor to confirm when everyone could see it was a foul.

The game did turn out to be very entertaining for Rangers fans too, as they finally put on a show with their quality attacking options and really put on a clinical display.

The game should have been out of sight in the first half but Rangers remained professional and finished the job in the second half, wrapping the game up professionally. A top performance.
