‘Absolutely scandalous’ – Official club partner reacts to bizarre moment in Rangers win v Hibernian

Official Rangers partner Four Lads Had A Dream felt it was “absolutely scandalous” that the referee needed VAR to give a penalty in the win over Hibernian.

The Gers fell behind early but immediately equalised through a James Tavernier penalty after Ryan Kent was blatantly fouled in the box after some good work on the wing.

But the referee initially didn’t award the penalty, before reviewing the incident on the pitch-side monitor with VAR and correcting his mistake, something they described as “horrendous” on their official Twitter account (8 March).

“Lovely penalty by Tav,” they wrote.

“Absolutely scandalous not to give that and have to go to VAR, the clearest penalty you will see.

“Horrendous by Robertson.”

Shocker

The media narrative when it comes to poor decisions and VAR is that it always benefits Rangers, but those people always forget to mention nightmares like this one.

It was clear as day to anyone with eyes that Kent had been fouled by the defender, yet the referee waved it away and this time last season that would have been the end of that situation.

Rangers

Thankfully we have got VAR now because it helped us get the right decision and get back into the game quickly after a slow start allowed Hibs to get the lead at Easter Road.

After that we were by far the better side and got a deserved three points from the game, but it was a bit concerning that we needed to fall behind before we woke up and got into the game.

None of that was as concerning as the referee not giving the decision just from the naked eye, because as the Four Lads Had A Dream boys said, it was the clearest penalty you’re likely to see this season.
