Rangers money available to spend as James Sands transfer terminated – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will now have even more money to spend on transfers after terminating the deal to sign James Sands permanently.
The finance expert admitted that the Bears will likely have ringfenced the £5million option for the American when signing up to the deal, so that should now become available.
It was described as a ruthless decision to make, with Michael Beale likely looking to make a statement ahead of what could be a summer of change at Ibrox.

“Generally speaking, yes,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Clubs set their budgets and if you know you have that option to exercise, you’re probably looking at that as money that you would have ringfenced for it.
“Obviously, things move very quickly in football clubs, so it’s not kind of a transaction that stops and then this happens, but it does probably free up that money elsewhere.
“If nothing else linked to that, it’s a bit of a statement from the management team and looking at a lot of talk of what happens to that squad now in the summer, does it need a bit of an upheaval?
“You think terminating that deal right now is a statement, so it may be a bit more ruthlessness to come further down the track.”

Smart.
This was definitely the right call to make for all parties involved.
Sands was not playing enough football to justify that price-tag in the summer, and for his own career, returning to New York City FC was something that he will have wanted too.
All eyes are now on the summer window though, with big changes needed to be made, first with players going out and then those who come in to replace them.
The money is there.
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
