Antonio Colak told to quit Rangers ASAP due to Michael Beale decision

Scottish Mail on Sunday journalist Gary Keown has urged Antonio Colak to “take the hint” and quit Rangers after becoming second-fiddle to Alfredo Morelos under Michael Beale.

Colak did, however, get the start over Morelos in Rangers’ 3-1 win over Kilmarnock but this has done little to impress Keown of his relevance to the Gers squad.

Speaking in the Scottish Mail on Sunday (page 108, 5 March), Keown highlighted Colak amongst an array of poor Ibrox transfer dealings from last summer.

“Look at the signings during the January 2022 window. Aaron Ramsey, Amad Diallo, Mateusz Zukowski, James Sands and John Souttar. Quality over quantity,” said Keown as quoted by the Scottish Mail on Sunday (page 108, 5 March).

“Mind you, last summer isn’t proving much better. Rabbi Matondo, Ridvan Yilmaz, Tom Lawrence. They either don’t play or sit in the stand unfit along with all the other crocks and duds.

“Antonio Colak would as well leaving ASAP as well, by the way playing second fiddle to the current version of Alfredo Morelos, you ought to take the hint.”

Bouncing back.

Rangers and Beale bounced back from their horrific Viaplay Cup final clash defeat to Celtic with a resounding win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on 4 March.

Connor Goldson, Fashion Sakala, and James Tavernier all got on the scoresheet and whilst Colak failed to score, he did impress during his time on the pitch.

The Croatian hitman was handed his first start since January and looked sharp, assisting Sakala for his goal and taking on plenty of chances himself.

He did miss a fairly big chance to get himself back in scoring form but his overall outing was a positive one which should give Beale some food for thought.

With Morelos’ contract situation looking murkier by the day it’s looking ever more likely that Colak will be looked upon to be one of Rangers’ main scoring threats next season.

The more games he plays under the Beale, the more time he’ll have to get comfortable with playing in a deeper role for the Englishman.

Hopefully, fans will get to see a whole lot more of Colak in the coming weeks and months.
