Michael Beale and Alfredo Morelos tension rises behind the scenes at Rangers – Sky Sports pundit

Kris Boyd believes there’s some tension emerging behind the scenes between Rangers manager Michael Beale and Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos, 26, was dropped to the bench for the win over Kilmarnock on Saturday (4 March) after previously starting five Premiership matches in a row.

Last week, in the Viaplay Cup final defeat to Celtic (26 February), Morelos displayed his frustration publicly when Beale substituted him off despite scoring Rangers’ only goal minutes earlier.

The Colombia international’s contact at Rangers expires in the summer and Sky Sports pundit Boyd believes the striker is heading for the Ibrox exit doors.

“I think his time is up. I’ve said that and I think Michael Beale is probably becoming frustrated with him now as well, hence the reason why he didn’t play yesterday,” Boyd told Sky Sports on Sunday ahead of Celtic versus St Mirren at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, as quoted by the Daily Record (5 March).

“Colak is obviously under contract going forward and they’re going to have to work with him at this moment in time. Looking at it right now, I can’t see a future at Rangers for Alfredo Morelos.”

Unrest?

It was a bit of a shock to see Morelos dropped against Kilmarnock, in truth.

Antonio Colak had been terrific under Giovanni van Bronckhorst but his injury and the change of manager led to Morelos starting more.

Morelos’ form has improved under Beale but there’s got to be some kind of unrest behind the scenes at Ibrox regarding El Bufalo.

Why has his contract situation not been cleared up yet? Why’s he still in and out of the starting line-up?

He had every right to be angry about that substitution against Celtic last week, by the way.

Beale’s team selection and in-game management contributed towards us losing but Morelos scored the goal to get us back into the game and was then hooked off.

Beale seems like the kind of manager who’ll ruffle feathers.

He’s tried to do it a lot with Ange Postecoglou in the media and it wouldn’t be a shock if he’s doing it at Auchenhowie with his players too.

It doesn’t seem a very happy camp right now, does it?
