Chris Sutton laughs it up as Stephen Craigan launches ‘really unfair on Rangers’ argument during Kilmarnock win
Chris Sutton thought it was hilarious that Stephen Craigan called it “traditional at Rangers” to be given a penalty during the 3-1 over Kilmarnock.
The former Motherwell defender actually defended the Light Blues in the wake of Willie Collum awarding a spot kick after a VAR review, despite disagreeing with the decision itself.
Ryan Alebiosu was penalised for controlling a bouncing ball with his arm as he ran into his own box next to Ryan Kent, and Craigan believes it is unfair on Rangers for officials to make decisions that draw criticism to the club.

Speaking live on BT Sport Score on Saturday (4 March, 3.44pm) Craigan said: “Derek McInnes can’t believe it. You talk about ‘clear and obvious’, Willie Collum’s been there for about two minutes. If you can’t see it within two minutes then clearly it isn’t clear and obvious.
“I think [Alebiosu’s] really unfortunate… Willie Collum has give a penalty, which is traditional at Rangers. It’s not their fault, is the SFA and the referees.”
“Aaah, traditional at Rangers!” cut in Sutton, laughing.
“I was just waiting for Chris’ reaction there,” said Jules Breach.
Craigan continued: “It’s usually what minute they get it in, which seems really unfair on Rangers, it’s the referees.”
Novel
It is true that the Gers don’t award themselves the penalties that often come at Ibrox but other sides probably will have their tiny violins out on this one.
Whatever the debates about the technicalities on each individual penalty award no club is exactly going to be unhappy to be given spot kicks.
Sutton of all people wouldn’t have been able to believe his ears after complaining on an almost weekly basis about when, where, how and why Rangers get penalties.

The one that James Tavernier fired in just before the break didn’t seem a particularly contentious one, even if they were lucky to escape conceding one on the other side of half time via Allan McGregor.
Collum has made his fair share of decisions just this season that have incensed Light Blues supporters and their opponents.
But the award against Kilmarnock wasn’t unfair on anyone and VAR did it’s job correctly this time.
In other Rangers news, a former FIFA official slammed a decision from Willie Collum then got Craigan’s name wrong.
