Rangers transfer news as club may explore new market for shrewd deals

PLZ Soccer host Peter Martin believes Rangers may explore the Asian market for new shrewd transfers to bring into Ibrox this summer.

Martin pointed to deals from Motherwell and Hearts in that corner of the world and confessed there must be something to clubs looking there.

The PLZ Soccer host admitted that Michael Beale may be shackled by the financial constraints of replacing certain talents in his squad with players of a similar calibre.

“The only thing that will shackle Michael Beale is probably he’s looking at letting him go it’s going to cost me a hell of a lot of money to get someone else of his calibre in there,” said Martin on the PLZ Soccer YouTube channel. (2 March)

“You don’t know how much of the budget there is to duck and dive.

“You don’t know Rangers might go to that Asian market, Hearts have done it, Motherwell have done it there must be something there that they can add to their squad.”

Land of the rising Gers.

Riku Danzaki joined Motherwell and took the total of Japanese talents in the Scottish Premiership to eight, all of whom have joined the top flight in the last two years.

Is this the new way to combat the overpriced and massive wages on offer to players from English clubs? It’s certainly starting to look that way.

Bitter Rangers rivals Celtic have been at the heart of recruiting from the land of the rising Sun with Ange Postecoglou managing J-League side Yokohama F Marinos for three years.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate all played a pivotal role in their title-winning charge last season with Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata brought to Parkhead in January.

Broadening your transfer search for new players may have to be the route forward for Rangers and if Celtic’s recent dominance is anything to go by, it might work well.

As well as providing an obvious amount of raw talent, the commercial value of making signings from Asia is also massive and a lucrative piece of the pie the Gers must get involved with.

It’s not yet clear who Beale has on his transfer wish list for the summer, but exploring new and emerging markets seems to be the way forward for clubs in Scotland.
