Rangers injury news as Kemar Roofe set to see specialist – Chris Jack

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe is set to see an injury specialist for his calf issue, which is the newest in a long line of setbacks he has experienced this season, according to Chris Jack.

After spending the majority of the season on the Ibrox medical table, the Jamaican picked up yet another injury in the aftermath of the 3-0 win over Livingston, in which he netted a goal after coming off the bench.

Roofe has played a part in just six matches for Rangers this season due to a number of untimely injuries and missed out on the Viaplay Cup final loss to Celtic due to his latest setback.

Writing for The Herald (Friday 3 March), Jack has confirmed that Michael Beale has taken more drastic measures in an attempt to get the 30-year-old fully fit and rid of any injury concerns.

He wrote: “And striker Kemar Roofe will seek further specialist advice as he faces another spell on the sidelines in what has been a campaign to forget at Ibrox.”

Torrid luck

Staying fit has been the main issue for Roofe since Steven Gerrard snapped up him up from Anderlecht almost three years ago. From thigh issues to a recurring knee injury and, most recently, a calf issue, Roofe simply cannot get off the medical table for long enough to nail down a spot in the first team.

There has never been any doubt that Roofe is a potent finisher when he is fully fit and played in the right system, which makes his struggles at Ibrox even more frustrating.

With Alfredo Morelos’ contract situation up in the air, this season could have been the perfect time to nail down his position in Beale’s plans going forward – but this has not been the case.

Sticking with Roofe beyond this season is a risky and expensive strategy. Paying a player who is never even fit enough to pull together is not a great transfer strategy, and you can’t help but feel the money the club are paying him could be better used elsewhere.

In other Rangers news, another contract decision must be made to avoid a repeat situation next season with this star.
