Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist argue on BT Sport over Rangers players v Celtic
Chris Sutton believes Rangers were “very petty” to head down the tunnel before Celtic lifted the ViaPlay Cup trophy at Hampden Park last Sunday (26 February).
Michael Beale’s side were outclassed by their Old Firm rivals in the final as they fell to a 2-1 defeat, but the talking points continued even after Nick Walsh blew his final whistle.
Sutton and Ally McCoist partook in a back-and-forth debate on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra show about the Gers’ decision to leave the pitch during the trophy ceremony, with both pundits agreeing in the end that it did lack respect.

Sutton couldn’t resist a further jibe at Rangers afterwards via his personal Twitter account (3 March) as he retweeted the video with the caption: “Very petty this was…”.
Hindsight
In the heat of the moment, the Rangers players may have made a mistake by not staying on the pitch to witness their opponents lift the trophy. However, given the emotion of the Hampden Park showdown and the disappointment that they were likely feeling, it is a fairly natural reaction.
On the day, Ange Postecoglou’s side were far superior to the Gers and the team can have no complaints that they came off second-best in their first final of the season.
If Beale harbours ambitions of winning some silverware this season, his side will need to improve in almost every department to do so. What will worry the Englishman the most will be the lack of control that John Lundstram and Glen Kamara exhibited in midfield, which eventually resulted in Celtic taking the lead before half-time.
Despite the comprehensive defeat, Rangers will still look to inflict their own pain on the Hoops and lift a trophy before the season comes to a close.
In other Rangers news, another contract decision must be made to avoid a repeat situation next season with this star.
