Ross Wilson must seriously consider his Rangers future after fans launch new tidal wave of criticism

It has been a tough week for Rangers both on and off the pitch, and sporting director Ross Wilson has now come under more sustained pressure than ever before.

The gulf in class between Michael Beale’s side and fierce rivals Celtic was plain for all to see in the 2-1 Viaplay Cup Final defeat last Sunday (26 February) – and Wilson must cop the blame for years of terrible strategic planning.

This is certainly the opinion of a number of Rangers fans who took to Twitter to vent their anger at the club’s sporting director on Thursday (2 March). Underneath a Tweet by the club’s official account featuring Beale’s press conference, supporters attached photos of Wilson and other board members, calling them to be sacked.

One such photo was captioned “No ambition. No clue. Sack the board” while others slammed the terrible transfer business that Wilson has captained in the past few years.

It is hard to argue with such opinions. The club’s record of winning just two trophies in the last 11 years is simply not good enough, and although Wilson has not been present for this whole period of time, he has more than played his part in recent times.

The hiring of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager was an unprecedented failure, while Wilson’s delayed decision in sacking the Dutchman has all but written off the club’s chances of mounting a title charge in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Meanwhile, on the pitch current crop of players at Ibrox is a mish-and-mash of confused thinking. The likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis are unfortunately no longer up to the standard required to wear the Gers top on a regular basis, while the looming contract situations of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent remain a major problem.

If the first-team duo were to leave in the summer for next-to-no fee attached, Wilson might as well get his resignation letter ready because the fans won’t stand for it.

As it stands, Celtic look like they will reel in Rangers’ total trophy count even further – and even the most ardent Gers fan will be a little envious at the smooth running of their Old Firm rivals right now.

The fans have turned on Wilson, and he must oblige to their wishes and move aside.

In other Rangers news, the club have pulled off a major transfer coup with a deal already signed for a player who was interesting two English giants.
