Rangers to axe ‘ten or twelve’ players in Ibrox summer rebuild – Pundit
Tam McManus has backed Rangers to let “ten or twelve” players depart Ibrox in the summer as part of Michael Beale’s squad rebuild.
The Gers’ boss managed to bring in two players in the January window and has already cancelled James Sands’ loan deal after an agreement was reached with New York City FC.
McManus feels the Light Blues’ squad is “bloated” and needs triming down come the end of the season.

“I think Rangers will get rid of ten or twelve players in the summer and I think they’ll bring in four or five,” said McManus (PLZ Football Show, 22m 30s, 1 March).
“I think they’ve got to trim that squad down, I think it’s bloated and there’s not enough quality in it.”
Huge window
The summer window promises to be a huge one on the transfer front. Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin have already arrived at the club and made encouraging starts. However, it is still far too early to cast a judgement on either player.
The cup final defeat to Celtic demonstrated the vast gap between the two sides and there is a desperate need for Rangers to act. The Hoops underwent a rebuild and are now reaping the rewards. They’ve invested smartly and have a number of young players who could well be sold on for significant profit.

It’s something the Gers need to be looking to replicate. There are far too many players who are well past their best and will offer nothing in the coming seasons. The goalkeeping situation needs rectifying, a new striker will certainly be on the agenda if Morelos departs, and at least two more midfielders will be required.
Beale has a huge task on his hands – and it’s one he simply cannot afford to get wrong.
