Rangers ‘chucked’ £20m out the window after Ibrox transfer decision – Pundit
Alan Rough believes Rangers “chucked” £20million out of the window by opting to keep hold of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos last summer.
The attacking duo are now in the final months of their current Ibrox deals and have yet to agree on new terms with the club.
Rough has claimed the pair would’ve been worth £20million at their “height” and has suggested it’s a decision which should’ve been made a year ago.

“I think Rangers have missed the boat with Morelos and Kent. I don’t know if they’re going to resign, but if they don’t, when they were at their height, you’re talking about £20million,” said Rough (PLZ Football Show, 12m 39s, 28 February).
“That £20million has now been chucked out of the window, that’s massive for any football club and is a decision which should’ve been made a year ago.”
Not wrong
Rough isn’t wrong and hopefully, a lesson will have been taken from the handling of Morelos and Kent. £20million is a huge sum of money for a club like Rangers and could’ve been reinvested into the current playing squad. The pair have been important in the 2022/23 campaign, but there’s certainly an argument to suggest they both should have been sold.
For both players, it’s hard to see where their next moves would be. Neither are good enough to perform consistently for a Premier League side and if they move elsewhere in Europe, they’re by no means guaranteed starters. Staying put at Ibrox would be the smart decision, particularly with Michael Beale in charge.

There are certainly other players who should be higher up on the ‘to sell’ list for the board. This squad is littered with players who are from a bygone era and need to be moved on in order for Beale to close the gap to Celtic. The cup final defeat on Sunday should come as a big wake-up call for all the decision-makers at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the Ibrox bank is set for a cash boost after a document emerged on Wednesday.
