Colombian media react to Alfredo Morelos scenes in Rangers loss v Celtic

Colombian media have reacted to Alfredo Morelos and his anger after Rangers lost 2-1 in the ViaPlay Cup final against Celtic on Sunday 26 February.

Sharing in the print edition of the newspaper [28 February, pg 46], the Daily Record looked at the reaction from around the globe.

The Bufalo was replaced after scoring the only goal for the Bears, leading to an angry reaction on the Hampden Park touchline, described as “annoyance” by his homeland.

AS were quoted by the Daily Record: “When everything seemed to lean in Celtic’s favour, Morelos appeared to score the goal that gave life to his team.

“Although Morelos was one of the references in the Rangers attack, Beale decided to replace him after 75 minutes, something that caused annoyance in the attacker who left the field angry at the decision.

“In the end, there no time for more.”

Anger.

Everyone who knows Morelos knows that this was fuelled by passion.

No one will have hated being behind at that stage more than him, especially after he had just halved the deficit with his scrappy but instinctive finish past Joe Hart.

Michael Beale did not get many things right at Hampden Park in his first big Old Firm final, and this could be another one of those poor decisions that cost him.

When first arriving, Beale admitted that he could play Morelos and Antonio Colak together, yet we have not seen that happen still, even with Sunday being the perfect opportunity.

Morelos will be back to make an impact again this season, but many more moments like this would raise serious doubt about whether he will sign a new contract or not.

With his current deal running out in the summer, it looks as though Beale and the club are running out of time to persuade him to stay, this will not have helped that.

In other Rangers news, Beale has been backed on Sky Sports over his team selection despite a backlash to leaving out one player.
