Charlie Nicholas makes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos transfer admission

Charlie Nicholas believes that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos should be shown the door after seeing his recent performance v Celtic.

He admits that Antonio Colak may not be as good as the Colombian, but he’s certainly fitter than him and that’s important.

Morelos’ Ibrox contract runs out at the end of the season and he appears no closer to penning an extension.

Nicholas wrote in the Scottish Daily Express [27 February], “The League Cup Final must surely be Alfredo Morelos’s final stand.

“I don’t know why Michael Beale has stood by him for so long. Steven Gerrard did the same thing. Time after time and red card after red card. Why do they keep playing Morelos?

“I know he scored at Hampden but the League Cup final defeat exposed his limitations. Yes he got on the score-sheet but other than that his contribution was zero. Morelos just doesn’t bring a danger to Celtic.

“If he continues to stick by Morelos then it could choke the Rangers manager. Antonio Colak might not be better than Morelos but he is certainly fitter than him.”

Time to go

It’s pretty clear that Morelos is not as fit as he once was and is not really taking the efforts to get there.

He is also no closer to signing a new contract and Beale needs to stop relying on him so much if he’s going to leave at the end of the season.

The cup final defeat against Celtic proved that there’s still a long way to go before they can compete against them and it makes no sense to build the team around a player who’s likely to leave at the end of the season.

Rangers

A definite answer is needed on Morelos and probably the right one is that he should be a goner come the end of the season.

Rangers have been far too emotional with their decisions in the past and cannot afford to operate that way in the future as well.

Hopefully, they manage to bring in quality players through the door in the summer as this squad is in severe need of a rebuild.
