Rangers fans must do more to get Ross Wilson and Douglas Park out at Ibrox after Viaplay Cup final defeat v Celtic

Rangers fans need to start doing more to get Ross Wilson and Douglas Park out at Ibrox after the Viaplay Cup final defeat to Celtic at the weekend.

The defeat at Hampden Park means that it is still just two trophies in the last 11 years at Ibrox, and the club’s total trophy count continues to be hunted down by Celtic across the city as they dominate the domestic game.

But why has this become accepted at Rangers? Why are fans not kicking off way more about the whole situation and this penny-pinching board?

Rangers

It goes all the way back to 2015, when the appointment of Stuart McCall saw us fail to get out of the Championship, meaning another year in the second tier.

Then was the whole Mark Warburton fiasco where he got us promoted, but clearly wasn’t ready to be a manager in the top flight and had us getting dominated for no reason whatsoever.

Pedro Caixinha came after that and was even worse, with the fact that he got the job simply because of being mates with the board so obviously back-firing. That didn’t stop the board spending £10m on players for him and then sacking him in October.

The players signed were brought in with no general plan or strategy to get them into the team, and thankfully the board followed up this decision with a failure to bring in Derek McInnes as manager.

That saw a caretaker appointed, and even he didn’t see out the season because poor performances with a below average squad. At this point Celtic made it two trebles in a row.

Then came Gerrard, which most fans will be happy to say was a good appointment and went well. He was backed in a rebuild, and while success wasn’t immediate it did come. The gap was closed and we stopped Celtic winning ten titles in a row.

But then Gerrard disappears half-way through the next season and Giovanni van Bronckhorst comes in to bottle a big lead at the top of the league to let them take the title again, but the European adventure papered over the cracks.

Follow that with a poor start to this season, and Van Bronckhorst was sacked weeks too late and replaced by Michael Beale – a man with less than 20 top flight games experience and only brought in because of his tenure as Gerrard’s assistant that produced one trophy in three years.

Now Beale is winning games, yes, that’s great. But the performances have been absolutely shocking for the most part and his decision not to start the players that he signed in the cup final after demanding the club would sign starters and not squad players has raised red flags.

As it stands Celtic are going to end up two trophies behind our total tally by the end of the season, because this league season is wrapped up if everyone is being realistic and honest.

With the way that Celtic are going right now, they’re all set to overtake that tally next season while we continue to dwindle into obscurity. We’ve now become happy with competing against them and winning the odd cup trophy. It’s not good enough.

Yes this Rangers board have done a few good things in their time here, but the vast majority of it has been absolute nonsense and if they hadn’t stopped that mob winning ten in a row they’d have been chased out of Ibrox years ago.

It’s time the fans stop accept being mediocre and start pushing the board to deliver or get out and move aside for someone who will.

In other Rangers news, scouts were sent to a major European derby to scout this international trio.
