Rangers player ratings v Celtic: Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara stink in Viaplay Cup final
Rangers still wait for their first trophy under Michael Beale as they suffered a defeat to rivals Celtic in the Viaplay Cup final on Sunday.
The Hoops took a two-goal lead and Alfredo Morelos’ second half strike gave Gers a chance to fight until the final whistle.
However, they could not get the job done and ended up losing the game 2-1.

Here are our player ratings for this one:
Allan McGregor – 5
There wasn’t much he could’ve done with the concession of either goals. It can be argued that he didn’t marshal his defence well enough as there was chaos for the first hour of the game. Made a decent save late on in the game.
James Tavernier – 3
Clearly at fault for the second goal and he’ll know that he could’ve done a lot more to stop the lead from being doubled. His defensive contributions have under criticism in the past and one can see why after this performance. However, he was once again on point with the dead ball as he set up Alfredo Morelos’ goal to bring the lead down to one.
Conor Goldson – 3
Caught sleeping in defence for Rangers for Celtic’s first goal and Kyogo managed to find the back of the net with ease. Not the best of games from the Englishman.
Ben Davies – 2
Appeared to lose his focus for the first goal and paid the price for the goal. It was shambolic defending for him. Even for the second, he wasn’t able to block the shots and was a defensive liability for the team all game.

Borna Barisic – 1
Could’ve done better to prevent the second goal from going in and he knows that he’s let his side down there. He was the favourite when the ball was played to him but let Kyogo steal a march on him. Even when his side had the ball, Barisic seldom made the right runs. When in possession, he often looked nervous and he clearly isn’t the answer to the left-back woes.
John Lundstram – 2
His inclusion in the eleven raised many eyebrows as Nicolas Raskin was expected to be handed the start. Lundstram clearly did not do anything to justify his start and it was surprising to see him not being subbed off earlier.
Glen Kamara – 2
It was surprising to see him last as long as he did and he’s done little to prove why he deserves to be at Rangers for the long term. It may arguably be his worst game for Rangers since Beale took over and the midfield looked far more solid after he was taken off.
Malik Tillman – 5
The American wasn’t effective at all in the game but worked really hard to try and make things happen. Deserved to come off in the 65th minute.
Fashion Sakala – 4
His touch let him down on numerous occasions in the game and it was frustrating to watch him play from a Rangers perspective. He got into threatening positions but his end product was non-existent much to the annoyance of Beale.

Ryan Kent – 5
Came close to scoring in the first half but his shot came back off the post. He did have threatening moments in the game but it wasn’t that often to give the Celtic defenders nightmares.
Alfredo Morelos – 6
Had a relatively quiet game but that was less of his fault and more of the lack of service around him. He did get his goal in the second half to give Rangers a chance of mounting a comeback and rallied the fans on as well.
Subs
Ryan Jack – 3
Todd Cantwell – 4
Nicolas Raskin – 4
Antonio Colak – 3
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
