Official club partner rips into ‘horrendous’ James Tavernier after Rangers 2-1 loss to Celtic in Viaplay Cup final

James Tavernier has been ripped into by Rangers official club partner Heart and Hand podcast after his “horrendous” error against Celtic.

The Gers were beaten 2-1 at Hampden Park in the Viaplay Cup final as Kyogo scored two near identical goals either side of half-time, leaving Alfredo Morelos’ strike to count for little.

But after the second goal went in and Celtic doubled their advantage, the club’s official partner and Rangers podcast were fuming at the skipper for his role in the goal.

“Exact same goal, horrendous from Tav then nobody tracking,” they wrote on their personal Twitter account (26 February).

Awful

It simply wasn’t good enough by Rangers at Hampden, and the captain knows it too hence his apology.

The energy was gone from their game for the first hour or so, and Tavernier was caught out badly for the second goal when he lost possession and then didn’t get back into position in time.

Rangers

Nobody tracked the runners, nobody put their body on the line and in the end it was easy for Celtic to cruise into a 2-0 lead.

The final 30 minutes was much more like it, and Morelos’ goal looked like it could spark a comeback but there’s no denying that Celtic are a really good side and we gave ourselves too much to do.

We have to do better in those big moments, and Beale will learn from it, but the fans were let down by a poor performance on the day and it cost us a trophy.

In other Rangers news, another Rangers star was called out for a “big mistake” in the cup final defeat to Celtic.
