Chris Sutton blasts ‘stupid’ John Lundstram after Rangers incident v Celtic in Viaplay Cup final

Chris Sutton blasted John Lundstram for a “stupid” foul on Aaron Mooy that saw the Rangers midfielder booked in the 2-1 defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Lundstram, 29, endured a miserable Viaplay Cup final display, which was capped by a booking in the second half when he was deemed to have fouled Aaron Mooy.

Ex-Celtic striker Sutton ripped into Lundstram for the foul while Ally McCoist agreed it was a needless yellow card for the ex-Sheffield United player.

Speaking on Viaplay’s live coverage on Sunday (26 February, 04:13pm), Sutton said: “It’s a stupid one, really. He just puts himself under pressure.”

McCoist agreed, saying: “Yes, he sees him coming and lifts his undercarriage.”

Lost their heads

Lundstram was abysmal against Celtic.

He wasn’t the only one but what’s happened to the ‘Silky Scouser’ who lit up the Europa League last season because he’s been miles off it this season for the Light Blues?

It’s almost as if he isn’t actually that good and just got lucky with his performances last season in Europe.

Glen Kamara’s had it too. What a fall from grace he’s had.

Michael Beale’s midfield is far from the finished article but two players who should be finished at Ibrox after that defeat to Celtic are Lundstram and Kamara, who contributed absolutely nothing other than their needless yellow cards.

If anything, their bookings were a blessing in disguise because it forced Beale into taking the pair of them off not long after Kamara entered Nick Walsh’s book.

Rangers’ central midfield options have to be improved in the summer.

Nicolas Raskin was a good start in January so it seems that they’re aware of this issue.

In other Rangers news, the club wants to sign one of the best up-and-coming talents in South America.
