Ally McCoist wowed by Rangers winger Ryan Kent in Viaplay Cup final v Celtic
Ally McCoist has raved about Ryan Kent while describing a “fantastic” touch from the Rangers winger during Viaplay Cup final clash against Celtic.
In a fiercely contested game, Rangers lost 2-1, but Kent was one of the players who really impressed at Hampden Park on Sunday (26 February).
In the 30th minute, the Bears came up with a dangerous attack through Alfredo Morelos. He passed the ball to Kent who with a “brilliant” turn passed it to James Tavernier. Cameron Carter-Vickers made an exceptional block to thwart the danger.
“It’s a brilliant touch. I’ve got to say it’s a fantastic touch from Kent,” said McCoist on Viaplay Sports UK.
“He takes it on the turn. Good ball in. Carter-Vickers does exceptionally well to come in at the back, the back of Sakala here.”
Deserves new contract
Kent was lively in the first half and nearly scored a goal in the second half.
When you look at the footage, it doesn’t seem like Kent has done anything fantastic here, but that’s the best part of the winger – he makes it look so easy.
With a simple touch, he created space for himself, and then played out a brilliant pass from which Rangers nearly scored. It shows what a quality player he is.
After this performance, the Rangers board shouldn’t have any doubt about giving a new deal to Kent, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The transformation of Kent under Beale has been impressive. Previously, he used to play out wide, and became very predictable with his approach.
Now, he drifts in a more central position, as we find in this case, and involve in more dangerous chances. When Morelos was taken off, Kent played out wide and Cantwell played in the no 10 role, providing tactical flexibility.
In other Rangers news, the club have pulled of a major transfer coup with a deal already signed for a player who was interesting two English giants.
