Rangers officials scrambled to get truth over Fashion Sakala after hoax spreads news

Rangers officials scrambled to find the truth after online hoaxers had claimed that Fashion Sakala had been shot dead in a robbery in Zambia, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper wrote in its print edition [February 25, pg. 114], that Sakala was left baffled when contacted by the club, as he was simply cooking dinner.

Club security was tasked with making that call, with the attacker leaving those hoax calls behind as he gets set for a big role in the ViaPlay Cup final on Sunday 26 February.

Writing in their latest edition, the Scottish Daily Mail shared: “In November, online hoaxers claimed the Ibrox striker had been shot dead during a robbery in his Zambian homeland.

“The usual clickbait involving footballers revolves around relationship updates posted by WAGs, Instagram posts from Dubai, or pics of a star striker hobbling around on crutches. Players being gunned down in armed robberies? Not so much.

“Cast into a panic, Rangers colleagues scrambled to get to the truth. A club security man was straight on the phone to the 25-year-old.

“Bemused by the fuss, Sakala was not only alive and well and in one piece. He was standing cooking dinner.”

Rangers

Awful.

Sakala has not failed to be in the headlines this season, that is for sure.

When these rumours first started to swirl, there was disbelief and that has only worsened when you realise that this was just some sort of sick joke by online hoaxers.

Fast forward to the modern day and Sakala is still on all of the back pages, this time for his media duties ahead of the ViaPlay Cup final against Celtic on Sunday 26 February.

The Zambian attacker first referred to our rivals as the “other mob” before confidently stating that Rangers are the better team, something that hopefully has the right impact.

It can either get under their thin skin or fire them up even more for the Old Firm, something that could create an incredible derby on the turf of Hampden Park.

Michael Beale will certainly be hoping that Sakala can cause carnage with his speed down the wing, it could turn into a real weapon for the Bears.

Bring it on.
