Rangers injury news as Kemar Roofe update ahead of Celtic clash drops

Rangers will find the latest injury to Kemar Roofe “hugely frustrating”, and it highlights that the striker can no longer be trusted at Ibrox, according to Dean Jones.

Gers Boss Michael Beale confirmed that the 30-year-old forward had a “slight issue” ahead of the Viaplay Cup final against Celtic (Sunday 26 February) after only returning to the first-team for last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Livingston. [Scottish Sun, 21 February]

Former Eurosport journalist Jones questioned whether Roofe wcould be trusted anymore within the walls of Ibrox if he is ruled out of the Old Firm encounter at Hampden Park.

He said: “If he’s injured again, then it is hugely frustrating for everyone at Rangers, and it does make you wonder how the situation turns around.

“He’s a great talent, but his injury record really doesn’t make for a good read or tell a good story. And it’s such a shame because he’s such a good player, but it’s very hard now to rely on him.”

Shame

Roofe has been one of the most frustrating players to step foot in Rangers football club over the past few years. There is no doubting his potent finishing ability whenever he can get a run of games together, however, this has come few and far between.

After scoring against Livingston last week, Gers fans would have been excited about the prospect of Roofe tearing up Scottish Premiership defences for the rest of the season, but it now seems like he is set for yet another spell on the sidelines.

The nagging question remains whether Rangers should call it quits with Roofe in the summer or persist in the thought that he will one day fill his potential at the Glasgow-based club.

The striker will certainly be a miss in the Viaplay cup final if indeed ruled out, and Beale will have to count on Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak to deliver the goods in his absence.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has piled the pressure on Beale ahead of the game and claims he hasn’t backed up all his talk since arriving at Ibrox.
