Todd Cantwell could be Michael Beale’s secret weapon in Rangers Viaplay Cup final clash v Celtic

Rangers’ new January addition Todd Cantwell could well prove to be Michael Beale’s secret weapon in their League Cup final clash against Celtic.

The 24-year-old joined the Gers last month on a long-term deal after his contract at Norwich City was due to expire this summer.

Cantwell has so far enjoyed life in Scotland starting four of the five games that he has been available, grabbing one assist and helping the team win all five matches.

Journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport [23 February] that the Gers are loving life with the former Canaries winger, claiming that the 24-year-old is giving everything after securing his move last month.

He said: “They’re loving him and I think it’s reciprocated from everything I hear and see. When you make a move like this to Rangers, you have to go all in and give it everything and it seems he has done that – this could be a great time in his career. He is going to thrive.”

With the Gers facing an era-defining Viaplay cup final clash with Old Firm rivals Celtic on Sunday, the club may potentially not have Malik Tillman available to start, having just returned to training yesterday after injury [23 February].

This means the former Queens Park Rangers boss could well have found his secret weapon to overcome the Bhoys.

Cantwell certainly knows his way around a big clash, having already become a full-fledged Premier League star during the 2019/20 campaign with Norwich becoming one of the campaign’s breakout stars for the Canaries.

The Englishman managed to score six goals and make two assists that season, before recording a further 13 goal contributions in the Championship the following campaign.

After enduring a difficult period thereafter, Cantwell will be looking to prove his attacking and creative class for Rangers, and this Sunday’s clash against Celtic could well represent the perfect platform for him to impress.

While Celtic will be sweating dealing with the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala, Cantwell could quietly go about his business and prove to be Beale’s secret weapon providing he starts in place of Tillman.

In other Rangers news, Alan Rough has predicted the score for the game against Celtic.
