Crystal Palace keeping tabs on Rangers youngster Calum Adamson

Rangers youngster Calum Adamson is the subject of transfer interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Record.

The Gers are still hoping to convince Adamson to pledge his future with the club’s academy, from where he could work his way through the ranks to the first team under Michael Beale.

However, the teenage midfielder, who is currently playing with Scotland Under-16s out in Cyprus, has become a target for the Eagles since the turn of the New Year.

“Crystal Palace and several other English top flights have had him watched as he has impressed against Denmark and England this week,” The Daily Record wrote (Thursday 23 February).

“The Eagles are also aware Adamson has been offered a professional deal at Rangers but has yet to commit. Palace have been watching his performances for Rangers over the past couple of months.”

Poaching

It is always a frustration when the Gers lose a talented youngster to the lures and riches of the Premier League, and fans will hope that Adamson will commit his future to life at Ibrox.

An example of this was the departure of Rory Wilson to Aston Villa last summer, who has since lit up the academy scene at Villa Park as well as for Scotland’s Under-17s with a hateful of goals.

If the club are to let Adamson go, hopefully, they can negotiate a strong sell-on clause to limit the damage if his value does rise over time. Hopefully, this won’t be the case, but a nice financial windfall in the future would dampen the disappointment of losing yet another academy prospect.

The Gers’ academy has had quite a long dry spell in the past decade, but players such as Adamson, as well as Wilson, show that there is some talent developing within the academy.
