Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers responds to Rangers outcry from Fashion Sakala – BBC Scotland reporter

Rangers attacker Fashion Sakala has come under the microscope this week for comments he made about bitter-rivals Celtic in the build-up to their Viaplay Cup Final this weekend.

The comments were brought to the attention of the Hoops by BBC Scotland reporter Kheredine Idessane, who spoke with Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers on Friday afternoon.

Sakala, who has scored four goals from 26 games this season, insisted that Rangers are the “better” side ahead of the game, but Carter-Vickers brushed off the comments as confidence.

“ I’ve got no problem with it”, the American said.

“Every professional sportsman has to have some level of self-belief to get to where they are. It’s a normal comment for a pro sportsman to make.”

Ruffled.

It’s fair to say that Sakala hasn’t exactly been in the Celtic good books following their pulsating meeting earlier in the season when the Zambian forward celebrated winning a penalty while down injured in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

He has since referred to their Glaswegian neighbours as ‘the other mob’ in his press duties this week, sparking laughter among the Rangers faithful.

But these comments could be a tactic for the Rangers man to get inside the head of Sunday’s opponents, as their good form under new boss Michael Beale stretched to nine straight wins since that Old Firm draw.

They have scored an incredible 21 goals in that time, while beating the likes of Hearts, Aberdeen and St. Johnstone. Naturally, confidence will be flowing in the Rangers camp and the likes of Sakala have every right to believe they are the better side at the moment.

All eyes are on Hampden Park.

In other Rangers news, a Celtic hero has admitted Beale wasn’t wrong about his assessment of Chris Sutton’s Chelsea career.
