Michael Beale ‘really trusts’ Glen Kamara amid Rangers exit speculation

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is expected to “stick around” at Ibrox, following speculation over his immediate future, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old has struggled for consistent game-time ever since Michael Beale’s arrival at the club in November, starting eight of eleven games under him in the Scottish Premiership and being an unused substitute in one of them.

Reports in Football Insider [14 February] suggested there were ‘question marks’ over the midfielder’s long-term future at the club and there is every likelihood that he will depart the Light Blues during the summer transfer window.

The midfielder was reportedly the subject of interest last summer with French Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice reportedly eyeing him up in a £10m deal [Scottish Daily Express, 1 September], but nothing materialised.

And speaking to GiveMeSport [21 February], Jones believes that Beale trusts the midfielder and that he is likely to remain at Ibrox if he gets regular minutes.

He said: “The stance I’ve heard on this ever since Beale came in is that he is a player he really trusts and would like to use as he steers his way through this season.

“And if we see enough of him between now and the end of the term, as I would expect us to, he will most likely stick around. There’s not the level of interest there once was either.”

Keep him

Despite his limited game time this season under Beale, Kamara still remains one of the club’s most crucial and important players in the squad, especially after the signing of 21-year-old Nicolas Raskin.

The 27-year-old is entering his prime years and still holds two years remaining on his current deal so it may be too soon for the Gers to make a decision just yet.

The player’s demand for regular game time is certainly warranted, considering the unique qualities and the suitability he provides Beale’s possession-heavy system at Ibrox.

With Beale impressively building a young and exciting crop of players at the Ibrox for the future, Kamara’s experience, know-how, leadership and yet his unique gifts from midfield could still provide the club with the tonic they need to fully go on and challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic next season.

They’ve got to keep him amongst the squad beyond this summer.
