James Tavernier shares hunger for more trophies after Hall of Fame induction

Rangers captain James Tavernier has spoken of the club’s desire and “hunger” for more trophies after being inducted into the club Hall of Fame.

The 31-year-old was one of three current squad members alongside veterans Steve Davis and Allan McGregor to be recognised for their contribution to the club.

Since joining the club in 2015, the fan-favourite has proven a pivotal figure in the club’s rise back to the top of Scottish football, as well as helping them to a European final last season.

And speaking to Rangers Review [22 February] he said: “It’s up there with some of the top achievements to be selected to go into a Hall of Fame at a club like Rangers. It’s a special moment and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

“When I hang my boots up and look back on it, it’s something that will be with me for the rest of my life. I will be able to visit Ibrox and my name will be up there on the board. It’s something that’s really special that I know in time will really set in for me and my family to enjoy it as well.

“This is why you become a footballer and it’s just another great example of why I gave my best all these years and to be chosen to go into the Hall of Fame means the world to me. I am looking to pay that back and give everything.

“I’ve got so many more chapters and I’m hungrier than ever to achieve what we all want to achieve and that’s winning more trophies.”

Key figure

It was only right for Tavernier to be recognised for his tremendous achievements as a Rangers legend.

The 31-year-old has proven one of the club’s most important and key figures in their quest to regain their position at the top of Scottish football, and his application and hard work are a real inspiration for many of the club’s up-and-coming talents.

And the hard work won’t stop there as the Gers look ahead to their crucial ViaPlay cup final clash with Old Firm rivals Celtic, for which the veteran full-back could play a pivotal role in Michael Beale picking up his first trophy as Rangers boss.

There’s a lot riding on this game, and a victory on Sunday could well prove the much-needed springboard for the club to cement their tenure under Beale and a catalyst for more success in the near future. A huge game which Tavernier will certainly be up for.
