Early Celtic team news v Rangers in Viaplay Cup final: Two players ruled out

Celtic could be without a host of players ahead of the Viaplay Cup final clash with Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday, according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on Tuesday (21 February) that Ange Postecoglou will definitely be without Benjamin Siegrist and James McCarthy.

There are also doubts surrounding the fitness of Anthony Ralston and Stephen Walsh.

However, Postecoglou has confirmed that Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull are in the running to make the squad at Hampden, saying: “Turnbull and Aaron we expect to join training this week.”

No bother

Whether Celtic have every player available or every player injured, Rangers should be approaching this game the same as they would any other Old Firm match.

It’s do or die.

Michael Beale will be desperate to win his first piece of silverware as the Rangers manager.

He tasted success on Steven Gerrard’s coaching team, winning the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21.

Rangers last won the Scottish League Cup in 2010/11, only winning the competition six times in this century.

It’s a competition that’s eluded us for far too long so it’s about time that duck ends and Beale also gets himself off the mark in terms of trophies.

There’s no doubt that this will be a tough game.

Both teams are in very good form but we have to back the Light Blues to come out on top.

Celtic’s team news is quite positive for them but it shouldn’t really have an impact on proceedings.

Mooy has been a regular for Postecoglou in recent weeks but is he a game-changer? We don’t think so.
