Alfredo Morelos can complete Rangers u-turn with Viaplay Cup final performance v Celtic

Alfredo Morelos has had a very up and down relationship with Rangers fans this season, but he could be about to complete a u-turn at Ibrox this weekend.

Morelos ended last season on the treatment table after a brilliant season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and this season couldn’t get back in the side because of the form of Antonio Colak.

His contract is still set to expire in the summer, but Morelos is now back to being first-choice under Michael Beale and heads into the Viaplay Cup final against Celtic on Sunday in good form.

The Colombian has netted four goals and registered two assists in his last five appearances for the club, and is now without a doubt the number one choice to start up front when everyone is fit.

And Rangers are heading into this game with a 50/50 chance of winning the trophy, which is a drastic turn of fortunes considering how far ahead Celtic seemed in the first half of the campaign.

Part of that is because of the form of Morelos, and that form has helped to rebuild the relationship that “El Buffalo” has with the fans.

Earlier this season he was left out of the squad for a Champions League game due to behaviour problems and fitness issues, with many deeming he was overweight and his attitude would cause a big problem within the dressing room.

But since Beale’s arrival at the club, he has been reinstated as the number one man and feels loved again. That can now be seen on the pitch too, with his boundless energy returning to his performances and goal involvements also returning.

But with his contract situation still unsolved, Rangers fans are still wary of falling back in love with him just in case he leaves again in the summer.

However, if there is one thing that will completely mend the relationship and get fans and Morelos singing off the same hymn sheet once again it’s a winning goal and performance in a cup final to beat Celtic.

That goal, performance and trophy could also be enough to see him sign a new deal at Ibrox and really complete the u-turn and set him on the path to becoming a true Rangers legend.
