Scott Arfield injury update shared ahead of Rangers Viaplay Cup final v Celtic

Scott Arfield is likely to be available for Rangers in their Viaplay Cup final clash with Celtic on Sunday (26 February) after a month out injured, says Michael Beale.

The veteran midfielder has rarely featured since Beale’s arrival at the club back in November, but the boss has shared that he has missed the last month with a calf strain.

However speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the final on Tuesday (21 February), Beale has shared that he is set to resume training this week and should be available for the game.

“Has had a calf strain and missed a month [but] will return to training and should be available for Sunday if needed,” official club partner Four Lads Had A Dream shared from the press conference (21 February).

Boost

With the news coming out of the press conference that key trio Ryan Jack, Malik Tillman and John Lundstram are yet to return to training for the game on Sunday, this comes as a welcome boost.

Arfield isn’t someone that many Rangers fans will be hopeful of starting the game, because his best years are certainly past him.

Rangers

However, he offers some battle-tested resilience to the squad, great experience and a goal threat too having previously scored against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final last year.

With the amount of injury problems we’ve had this season, it’s good to get some positive news this week ahead of such a big game and Arfield is someone who will know exactly what this means.

Hopefully as the week progresses we will hear more positive news on the other players who are currently unavailable, but at least we can count on Arfield to be there and ready to go to war.
