Chris Sutton narrates Celtic incident that made Rangers fans laugh
Chris Sutton has given the example of Rangers and Celtic games ahead of the big Champions League clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The Reds fans set off fireworks outside the Madrid team’s hotel on Monday night and Sutton claims that he’s had something similar done with him too, ahead of Old Firm clashes.
However, he does not believe that it has the desired effect fans think it does on players and if anything, motivates them to perform better.

He wrote in the Daily Mail, “By my reckoning, I’ve had this happen 10 times in my career. Usually, it was the fire alarm going off at the Hilton in Glasgow before the Old Firm.
“I’m sure those Rangers fans got a good chuckle out of Celtic’s striker standing outside in his dressing gown in the wee hours, waiting to be let back in. Does it have the desired effect on the players? Not really.
“If anything, it can have the opposite. As if you weren’t already motivated enough to win, now you’re thinking, ‘Sod this, if they’re trying to mess with us, let’s make sure we mess them up’.”
Subjective
Sutton thinks that this is a one size fits all issue and it clearly isn’t.
A team like Madrid is filled with players that have top mentalities and a little hindrance isn’t going to bother them.
However, sides that aren’t used to winning as much often go into games with inferiority complexes and these things can get to them.

Sutton clearly wasn’t the best of players in his heyday either so we’re surprised that he’s having such a direct take on it.
We’re sure that Rangers fans have got to him on a number of occasions and the club still lives rent free in his head so it’s rich to preach all of this about him not being bothered.
Hopefully, Michael Beale silences him once and for all and guides this Gers side to victory in the remaining Old Firm clashes and narrowing the gap as much as they can on their arch rivals.
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
