Kenny Miller questions if Rangers need to complete marquee summer signing for Malik Tillman
Kenny Miller has questioned if Rangers need to complete a £6m permanent signing for Malik Tillman this summer considering the options in that position.
The light blues have the option to sign the American from Bayern Munich permanently at the end of his loan deal this summer, but recently welcomed back Ianis Hagi from long-term injury and signed Todd Cantwell from Norwich.
With previous big-money signings like Ridvan Yilmaz struggling at Ibrox however, Miller wrote in his Daily Record column (19 February) that he wasn’t sure that Tillman was needed beyond the summer at that price.

“And given those haven’t worked out despite a heavy outlay, are Rangers really going to pay £6 million for a permanent Malik Tillman move?” he asked.
“Michael isn’t short in that department after getting Cantwell in and Ianis Hagi fit.
“Michael likes Kemar Roofe but we all want to see him have a run of games.
“I fear we’ll be here in 12 months debating what’s going to happen with him in the final year of his contract. That sums up how much of a minefield the recruitment game and squad-building can be.”
Quality
Since when has it been an issue to have too much quality in the attacking third at a club that wants to compete for trophies and honours?
Tillman has emerged as one of the best players at the club this season and we’d be absolutely bonkers not to tie him to a long-term deal based off his performances, considering the potential re-sale value on the player.

Hagi has been out for a long time and while he just penned a new deal, there is no guarantee that he will go on to be the player he once promised to be now after such a serious injury and Cantwell is capable of playing in several roles too.
Add to that Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala, Tom Lawrence and Tillman, it leaves any of Scott Wright or Rabbi Matondo to leave instead and keep the quality high.
£6m is expensive, no doubt, but he’s the type of player that having in your squad can be the difference between winning titles and not.
In other Rangers news, there is no sign the club have the money to complete a major summer transfer.
