Perfect opportunity for Michael Beale to use Rangers transfer budget after squad cull admission

Tam McManus has suggested that Michael Beale has got a “perfect” opportunity in the summer to rebuild the Rangers squad and use the transfer budget wisely.

Beale has admitted recently that he wants to make necessary cull to his bloated squad, and wants to bring in new players to make the squad better.

McManus feels that by letting go of around “nine or ten” players who are out of contract in the summer, Beale will have a great opportunity to rebuild the squad to his own taste.

“I think he’s talking about 31 players that Rangers have for the first team,” said McManus on PLZ Soccer [24.25 onwards].

“He wants to cut them down to 22. I think it’s about nine or ten players who are out of contract in the summer.

“He’s got a perfect opportunity to reshape the squad and use the budget wisely.”

Likely

Irrespective of how the season ends for Rangers, all eyes will be on next summer.

Frankly, the title race is over, and what needs to be looked at is whether the Bears can reduce the gap with Celtic and win one or two cups.

If Beale can reduce the gap with three to four points, and win one trophy, it should be seen as a job well done, considering where they were when Giovanni van Bronckhorst left.

Now comes the hardest part. The squad needs to be rebuilt and Beale must axe a host of players.

There are at least eight to nine players who are in the final few months of their deals, and then there are some who have contracts until 2024.

Rangers

Beale has made it very clear that he will reduce the size of the squad, but most importantly he wants to add players who will improve the core team.

It remains to be seen how Rangers will go through the process. It will create a huge space if the club release eight to nine players, and it means the club will have to buy a lot of players as well.

Beale probably will create a strong team based around core group players, and bring in more young talents into the club in the summer.
