Chris Sutton aims thinly veiled dig at Michael Beale with cryptic message as Rangers feud spills over

Chris Sutton has shared a cryptic message on Twitter where he has appeared to have taken a thinly veiled dig at Rangers and Michael Beale.

The former Celtic striker was included in a list of pundits alongside Ally McCoist, Alan Shearer, Alex Scott, and David Coulthard for his work on BBC 5Live for the Pundit of the Year award, and he took that opportunity to continue his war of words with Beale.

The Gers boss appeared to call Sutton a “comedy act”, and described him as Chelsea’s worst-ever player. He further questioned his role as a pundit in Scottish football, saying he would love to mute certain commentators.

“Delighted and proud to have been nominated for this even though certain dictators want me muted for having an opinion which is different to their own. I love working at BBC 5 Live Sport,” wrote Sutton on Twitter.

Games to focus

It all started when Sutton suggested that Beale wouldn’t have shown sporting gesture against Celtic as he did against Partick Thistle when he allowed the opposition to walk the ball into the back of the net after Malik Tillman scored a controversial goal.

Beale was far from impressed with those comments and delivered a lengthy rant. It looks like Sutton has continued his war of words, and it would be sensible for Beale to stay quiet and focus on his job.

The last thing Rangers need is their manager getting involved in silly arguments with an ex-Celtic player. So far, Beale has done an outstanding job but there’s a lot of football left to be played.

Rangers face Celtic in the ViaPlay cup final next Sunday (26 February) at Hampden Park and it presents a big opportunity for Beale to lift his first trophy as a manager.

Before that, the Gers will face Livingston away from home and they should be aiming to pick up maximum from that game.

In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
