Reims manager Will Still raves about ‘complete’ Rangers new signing Nicolas Raskin

Reims manager Will Still has issued a rave review of new Rangers signing Nicolas Raskin following his departure from the club.

The 21-year-old Midfielder, who joined the Gers on deadline day, has clearly left a strong impression at his former club.

Still told La Tribune, as translated by the Daily Record (17 February), “It is complicated, really very complicated. Also because he was a personality. He had an impact in the locker room, everyone listened to him.

“Nico is a good guy, but also a great player, very complete. He wins a lot of balls, but he goes forward and is able to score, it can’t be replaced overnight.”

Raskin has only made two appearances for the Gers since sealing his move to Ibrox.

His debut came in the form of a seven-minute cameo against Ross County (4 February) in the League Cup before he was handed a first league start against Partick Thistle on Sunday (12 February), in which he registered an assist.

First impressions

Rangers fans haven’t had much of an opportunity to make an assessment of Raskin following his deadline-day move.

His debut was delayed by late paperwork so fans have only been able to witness 96 minutes of his football.

Raskin’s performance provided reasons to be hopeful. His assist against Partick was a thing of beauty. The way he took Tavernier’s pass in his stride before holding off the defender and pitching in an inch-perfect cross for Antonio Colak, fantastic.

So to also have the backing of Still’s comments, a manager who is impressing many across the continent this season, is another feather in the cap of Raskin and another reason to be excited about his arrival at Ibrox.

The line about being able to get forward and score goals is probably the most interesting as it looks increasingly likely that one of the Gers’ main goal threats will leave the club in the summer.

Alfredo Morelos’ departure will leave the club with only one out-and-out goalscorer at the club, so if Raskin can pitch in he could make himself a vital part of Michael Beale’s side.
