Planning officers want green light for Rangers development plan, meeting scheduled for Tuesday
Planning officers are urging Glasgow’s planning applications committee to approve the development of 160 flats on a matchday car park owned by Rangers, report Scottish Housing News.
Merchant Homes lodged its proposal for tour four-story buildings to be built on the former Greyhound track near Ibrox in 2020. The development will result in Rangers losing 89 car parking spaces, although there will be other replacement parking areas made available.
A committee meeting is now scheduled for Tuesday (21 February) with Scottish Housing News suggesting (17 February) the application is set to be approved.

Minimal
It appears the impact for Rangers will be fairly minimal, with just 89 car parking spaces lost as a result. Furthermore, the decision to develop the car park would have longer-term benefits to the surrounding area. It’s important to move with the times and if the board can do that whilst also gaining some commercial benefit, then it’s a good thing.
Getting in the good books with the council could also be a smart move. The board may wish to consider developing Ibrox in the coming years and gaining planning permission could prove to be a lot easier if they’ve shown their ability to cooperate in previous ventures.

All eyes will be on Tuesday’s meeting but it appears the verdict is fairly set in stone considering what he previously reported. It’s also been suggested that the new building will maintain some of its historical context from the greyhound track through the design and development.
The whole project seems like a good prospect and will certainly provide a boost to the area around Ibrox.
