No sign that Rangers can afford to pay £6.2m clause to sign Malik Tillman permanently in summer
Rangers are yet to show any sign that they have the money to complete the permanent signing of Malik Tillman this summer, according to Christian Falk.
The American playmaker joined from Bayern Munich on a season-long loan last summer with a £6.2m option to make it permanent, which is expected to be triggered after his fantastic performances at Ibrox this season.
But according to the highly reliable Falk, writing on Fabrizio Romano’s Substack for Caught Offside (17 February), he admits that Bayern are willing to sell him however it’s unclear if Rangers will be able to afford him.

“Bayern Munich are very happy about Malik Tillman’s development at Rangers,” he said.
“They’re keeping an eye on his education in Glasgow but not for the purposes of keeping hold of the player. There is an option-to-buy of €7m (£6.2m) included in the loan deal that took him to Scotland and they’re prepared to sell him.
“There’s no sign yet from Rangers that they have the money or are prepared to sign him. However, if they want Tillman, they can get him.”
Uh oh
The financial strictness at Ibrox is no secret, and has been a talking subject for a long time when it comes to transfers, but this is one they can’t let slip.
Tillman has been one of the club’s best and most consistent performers this season, and has got even better since Michael Beale turned up and found a role for him in his system.

£6.2m is a lot of money in Scottish football, no doubt. That price would put him third in our all-time most expensive signings, behind only Ryan Kent and Michael Ball (£6.5m) and Tore Andre Flo (£12m).
But he has proven to be able to take this team to the next level, he has got fantastic re-sale potential for the future with his age and qualities but also he makes us far better.
If the club currently don’t have the money to complete the deal, they better find it and quick, or they’ll very quickly regret not being able to keep him around for next season.
In other Rangers news, a report shared if the club are likely to exercise their option to sign James Sands permanently in the summer.
