Rangers agreement in place with Merchant Homes for latest Ibrox development, document revealed

Rangers are set to recieve planning permission to build a football-themed block of flats right next to Ibrox, according to the Scottish Sun.

Wednesday’s (15 February) report, details that the Gers are seeking to build two four-storey U-shaped blocks, each containing 80 flats where the Albion car park currently sits.

Rangers now have an agreement in place with Glasgow-based property developer Merchant Homes for the development.

The block of flats won’t look too out of place next to the stadium with the building set to be coloured the same as the famous faded red bricks of Ibrox.

As detailed in the report, the developers say they will provide 107 car parking spaces as part of the housing plan, amid fears over a lack of places to park on matchday.

Exciting development

This can only be good news for the football club as a redevelopment of the area around Ibrox is desperately needed.

As long as the design is in-keeping with the theme of Ibrox and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb, no Rangers fan should have an issue with these flats going up.

The concern over car parking spaces is a valid one. People come from far and wide to watch the Gers every week and spaces are hard to find as it is.

But the developer’s guarantee that more spaces will be made available has to be taken at face value.

Hopefully this is the first of many developments around Ibrox over the coming years. Top clubs in England almost have small cities embedded around their stadiums.

Old Trafford has it’s own football-themed hotel, similar to the flats that are soon to be buitl at Ibrox. Man City have a whole fan park encompassing the stadium, with shops and places to eat creating a vibrant matchday experience.

This is one Ibrox development everyone should get behind.
