Angus Gunn move to Rangers will surely see the end of Robby McCrorie at Ibrox

Rangers have been linked with a move for Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn – and the news should be a further indication that Robby McCrorie isn’t Michael Beale’s number one.

The Herald suggested on 8 February that the 24-year-old goalkeeper was still a number of weeks from returning to action for the Gers. He signed a new deal in October and appeared to be very much in contention to be Allan McGregor’s successor.

However, this untimely injury coupled with Beale’s latest transfer wishes are now a clear indicator that McCrorie should be looking to move elsewhere in the summer.

The US Sun suggested (12 February) the Light Blues are now targeting Gunn, who is valued at around £3million. The Englishman has fallen out of favour at Carrow Road and could well be moved on in the summer.

The 27-year-old has previously received an England call-up and would be an excellent addition if he follows Todd Cantwell from East Anglia to Ibrox.

With McGregor almost certainly playing in his last season of professional football and Jon McLaughlin struggling of late, a new number one is certainly high on the list of Beale’s priorities. Manchester City youngster James Trafford has also been linked with a move to Ibrox, with it becoming clear McCrorie isn’t being considered by Beale.

Being Rangers’ number one is a very unique role which requires a personality who has previous experience playing regular first-team football at a high level, sadly for McCrorie, he hasn’t had the chance to showcase his ability.

It would certainly be a big call for Beale to place all his faith in the Gers youngster heading into the 2023/24 campaign and considering the recent transfer links, it seems unlikely.

In other Rangers news, the Ibrox bank is set for a cash boost after a document emerged on Wednesday.
