Rangers: New contract waiting for Steven Davis despite fears of career-ending injury

Steven Davis could be in line for a new Rangers contract despite fears that his disastrous ACL injury could bring an end to his career, according to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson.

The midfielder admitted to BBC Sport (9 February) that he has to be realistic about returning to the game and confessed it’s by no means set in stone that he’ll ever play again.

Nevertheless, Jackson believes that the maestro’s days at Ibrox are far from over with the midfielder still being a hugely influential character at the club.

“Yes. It’ll be a long way back for the Northern Irishman but he remains a hugely influential character at the football club,” as quoted by the Daily Record. (13 February)

“Michael Beale has already hinted that there’s a new contract waiting for the veteran – along with a potential coaching role – and Davis isn’t ready to hang up his boots just yet.”

Positive signs.

It’s nice to see that Davis still has a future at Ibrox whether that’s in a playing role or becoming a member of the coaching staff in the coming years.

Beale evidently rates the midfielder very highly and having an experienced head and professional in the dressing room never goes amiss.

It’s a trait that is priceless in the modern game and one that is often overlooked by fans and clubs who are eager for their team’s to bring in shiny new toys.

Beale expressed confidence on 27 December that Davis will be able to continue his playing career and Rangers will surely do everything they can to get him back on the Ibrox surface.

If anyone can battle through this rough ordeal, it’s Davis and fans will have their fingers and toes crossed that he will be able to put on the Light Blue shirt at least a few more times.

In other Rangers news, the Ibrox bank is set for a cash boost after a document emerged on Wednesday.
