Chris Sutton blasts Malik Tillman after controversial moment in Rangers win v Partick Thistle
Chris Sutton has blasted Malik Tillman for his controversial goal in Rangers win over Partick Thistle on Sunday, saying it was “really poor”.
Tillman scored the second of Rangers’ three goals at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup game, taking the ball back off the defenders as they prepared to give possession back to the hosts after he was down receiving treatment for an injury and the ball got put out of play.
After the visitors became outraged, boss Michael Beale instructed his team to allow Thistle to score an equaliser immediately from kick-off in a show of good sportsmanship but Sutton told BBC 606 (12 February) that the American was wrong for what he did.

“Yeah, there was a big, big controversial incident up there, wasn’t there?” he said.
“Tillman scoring a goal which he shouldn’t have done.
“He shouldn’t have scored because I think he was injured and went back on.
“The Partick Thistle players were outraged. Really poor from Tillman.”
Behave
Once again this is Chris Sutton using his platform to do anything he can to take a swipe at Rangers and our players.
Everyone understood what happened with Tillman, as he came back on to the pitch and pressed the ball having not been aware of what had happened beforehand because he was down injured after being stepped on.
He scored the goal as the first thing you’re taught as a child is to play to the whistle, and when Beale allowed Thistle to equalise that should have been the end of the incident.
Ian McCall said he didn’t hold any ill will towards Tillman, and the fact it was dealt with on the spot by the manager should have been a point of praise for Sutton rather than anything else.
But instead he took it as a chance to take a stab at the club, and then he wonders why the fans dislike him and everything he says for being biased.
In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has revealed that one starlet was set to start in the cup before a training ground injury.
