Alex Lowry was set to start for Rangers v Partick Thistle before fresh training injury on Saturday – Michael Beale
Michael Beale has revealed that Alex Lowry was set to start for Rangers against Partick Thistle before suffering a fresh injury in training on Saturday.
The Gers claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Championship side to progress into the next round of the Scottish Cup, but starlet Lowry was noticeable in his absence from the match day squad.
Manager Beale revealed after the game that the attacking midfielder was set to start the game before picking up a fresh injury in training before the game, while key central defender Connor Goldson was also suffering with an injury which is why he only made the bench.

“Connor Goldson had a slight issue with a calf problem so there was no point risking it,” he said as quoted by Glasgow Times (12 February).
“Young Alex Lowry yesterday was likely to start but had to go off in training and he left the training ground in a boot, so that was unfortunate.”
Bad luck
It just won’t go the way it’s supposed to go for young Lowry at Ibrox right now will it?
He was supposed to break through under Giovanni van Bronckhorst but he suffered that horror injury in the reserve game, and then when he was fit again the team was playing so badly the boss wouldn’t put him in the team.

Now Beale is in charge and he was supposed to get chances, the team is playing so well that we don’t want to mess with the balance and when he’s finally set for a chance he gets injured again.
Being in a boot means he’s likely to be out for a little while once again, and that means less opportunities once more. That loan move in January is looking more and more like a missed opportunity.
Hopefully it will come to fruition soon because he’s such a talented young player, but with so many attacking options in the squad right now it’s becoming more and more difficult to see how Lowry breaks into the side in the future.
