‘Serious doubts’ over Kyogo Furuhashi for Viaplay Cup final between Rangers and Celtic

Rangers have been given a big boost ahead of the Viaplay Cup final against Celtic after top scorer Kyogo Furuhushi was forced off in their game on Saturday.

The Old Firm clubs will meet in the cup final at the end of the month, with the first trophy of the season on the line and bragging rights for Glasgow up for grabs.

And Rangers were handed a huge boost when Kyogo suffered an injury just 15 minutes into their Scottish Cup game against St Mirren, with Football Scotland describing him as a “serious” doubt.

“With the Viaplay Cup final against Rangers coming in two weeks, there will be serious doubts over the 28-year-old’s availability,” they wrote (11 February).

Huge

Considering all the injury problems that Rangers have had this season, it’s about time they came up against a side missing key players for a big game.

Celtic haven’t had to deal with issues such as those for a while, with great squad depth and plenty of quality, but without their top scorer they’ll have an idea of what we’ve been going through now.

Michael Beale has got Rangers playing good football and scoring goals, while also being solid defensively and we showed in the previous Old Firm game since his arrival that we can compete with them on all fronts.

These minor moments in games can have huge butterfly effects, and if Kyogo isn’t available for the cup final then it most definitely is advantage to Rangers.

We’ll need to be as strong as possible for our own advantages, but this is a big boost for us and could well be the difference between us lifting the trophy or not.
