Barry Ferguson insists Ryan Kent Burnley transfer would be a step down from Rangers
Barry Ferguson believes Rangers winger Ryan Kent would be taking a step backwards in his career if he were to seal a move to Burnley at the end of the season.
Football Insider reported on Friday (10 February) that Clarets boss Vincent Kompany is an admirer of Kent and is keen to bring him to Turf Moor when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Michael Beale recently admitted (February 3) that there was a positive vibe surrounding the ongoing contract talks with both Kent and Alfredo Morelos, with both players now free to discuss pre-contract deals wherever they wish.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (Friday 10 February), former Ibrox player Ferguson suggested that the Englishman would be making a mistake by moving to Burnley – who are currently top of the Championship table.
“No, come on. You’re talking about Burnley, here. Listen, there’s no comparison,” he said.
“I’m just being honest. They’ve got a guy as a manager, who was a brilliant player. They’ve got a bit of history, Burnley, but if you’re putting Burnley and Rangers together, come on.”

Decision time
Ferguson is correct in his assessment of Kent’s potential transfer to Burnley, as even if they do get promoted to the Premier League, the club cannot get near the historical success of Rangers.
At Ibrox, Kent has the opportunity to win trophies, and play in front of an ardent fanbase on a weekly basis. But the longer his contract saga continues to roll on, the more Rangers fans will question whether he actually wants to remain at the club beyond the end of the season.
Hopefully, the winger will pledge his colours to the Rangers mast and continue his fine form under Beale beyond the end of the season. Alongside the likes of Malik Tillman and Todd Cantwell, Kent could be the beating heart of the Gers’ side for many years to come if he puts pen to paper and signs a new long-term deal.
However, both Kent and Alfredo Morelos could be shipped on to fund further incomings if Burnley or any other Premier League clubs come calling with a lucrative offer.
In other Rangers news, the Ibrox bank is set for a cash boost after a document emerged on Wednesday.
