Robby McCrorie doomed to Ibrox exit amid injury news, Michael Beale eyes Rangers replacement
Robby McCrorie’s career at Rangers has been a strange one to date – and time is now ticking for the 24-year-old to make an impression at Ibrox.
McCrorie only signed a new deal in October but has found minutes extremely hard to come by due to injury and a change of manager. With Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin both likely to exit at the end of the season, there’s an opportunity for a new keeper to stake a claim.
However, it’s been suggested (The Herald, 8 February) that McCrorie is still set to be out for three more weeks with an injury – which will put pay to any game time which was in the offing.

With Michael Beale almost certainly on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer, the end of the 2022/23 season was the perfect opportunity for the 24-year-old to stake a claim.
But will the Light Blues’ boss really consider McCrorie to be his number one if he’s only seen him play in a handful of games? It’s not a logical thing to expect from Beale. A player who has yet to prove himself and has been plagued by injury is not the answer when it comes to the goalkeeping situation.
Rangers need a future star to don the number one shirt. To be number one at Ibrox is a unique position. You aren’t called upon often, but when you are it’s crucial you deliver; McGregor has proven this for a number of years.

Beale has already been eyeing up a new keeper, with Manchester City youngster James Trafford a potential option (Daily Mail, 30 December).
With McCrorie facing a race against time to get some minutes under his belt, the future certainly doesn’t look bright for the 24-year-old, with only a significant turn of events potentially seeing the youngster be the Gers’ number one for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart claims the Light Blues must be looking to sign a star man from one SPFL rival.
