Michael Beale may have to sign three Rangers keepers amid Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin situation
The Herald‘s Chris Jack has suggested Michael Beale has “no option” but to address the goalkeeping situation at Rangers in the summer.
Allan McGregor is almost certainly playing his last season of professional football and Jon McLaughlin has been unconvincing in recent weeks when given the chance.
Jack has suggested the Light Blues’ boss now has to sign a new number one when the summer window opens.
“Giovanni van Bronckhorst opted not to sign a goalkeeper but Michael Beale now has no option but to do so. He will need at least one, probably two or perhaps even three as his squad takes shape ahead of his first full campaign in charge,” wrote Jack in The Herald on Wednesday (8 February).
Younger option
McGregor has been an icon for the Gers over a long period of time, but his decision to essentially retire and then change his mind in the summer caused the club plenty of problems.

McLaughlin was primed to take the number one jersey and for that to be taken away from him at the last would’ve been a big blow.
Furthermore, McGregor delaying his retirement almost feels as if the Gers have had to wait longer to finally resolve their goalkeeping situation.
The Light Blues were linked with Manchester City youngster James Trafford in the January window, and the 21-year-old would be an excellent option for the board to pursue in the summer (Daily Mail, 30 December).
The chopping and changing from Beale is potentially helping neither keeper. McGregor will be desperate to play pretty much every single game from now until the end of the season and McLaughlin probably isn’t enjoying being thrown into the starting eleven every now and then.
In other Rangers news, one player who Michael Beale wants to keep in his team may not agree to stick around.
